Do you think we run the risk of disconnecting ourselves from society when...?

we look to stories of people who allegedly lived 2000-6000 years ago, when there there are plenty of people who have suffered through many of the same hardships we are suffering though, who are still alive today? it seems to me, if there was a relevant answer as to how to get through a problem, i would turn to people who are alive, for there would be no need to interpret their word different from what they actually mean. why should i turn to the bible on matters of say something like adultery or infidelity, when i know several people alive who have dealt with it first-hand? don't you think turning to the bible on such matters takes away from an essential part of being human, that is sharing common experiences?

example: let's say i'm going through a struggle in might life. while someone might say, ';your story sounds a lot like job's.'; i'm think my story sounds a lot like my friend joe's. now, who should i turn to for advice? the book of job or my friend joe?

A very good point, well made. I agree - have a star.Do you think we run the risk of disconnecting ourselves from society when...?
Yeah, I doubt anybody in the Bible actually went through anything like anything we go through today. We shouldn't learn anything from history or what anyone before us might have experienced. Just hang out and get all your advice from your peers.

Bad argument, but keep trying.
Many possibilities;

1. We tend to see what (shared experinces) but God focuses on why.

2. Adultery (for example). Has not man being doing that for centuries? Why not recerd it once or twice and 'be done' with it? Besides, who may recall XXX?
wow........ You should turn to job and. Wouldn't you want to be part of the bride of Jesus? I know I would! That's why I'm going to follow the bible and Jesus lord God!
The Word of God is the same past and present and future.

The Bible is God's life manual for us.
good question
Bible, before it's too late.
Sharing common experiences is an excellent way to express yourself and start some of the healing process. However, that does not always heal the heart! In your example of ';adultery';, before it occurred, did you know it was a sin? And if you did, why did you sin?? If you were unaware of it being sinful, the healing process would be real easy. God can more readily forgive you if you repent and admit you were unaware.

The people who lived back then had first hand knowledge or were told from eyewitnesses about God and His son Jesus. We do not have that particular knowledge so we have to rely on documentations.
